Answering a Pig-Headed Arminian

Ever have a Christian brother or sister attack your Calvinistic beliefs? I'm not talking about someone who wants to discuss the Doctrines of Grace in a courteous, cordial manner. I'm talking about someone self-righteously ranting and raving. You know the type - they wear their "Free-Willism" like a clown wears make-up. They have semi-Pelagian ear plugs shaped like Charles Finney and never hesitate to use them. They try to force you into playing their favorite game - "Bible Twisting Hop-Scotch". This they learn from an over abundance of wimpy topical sermons that exalt man and place self-will atop Mount Sovereign.

Well, here is what to do.

Have cards made that have the first part of Matthew 7:6 on the front, "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine..." As their volume continues to increase (and it will) produce some fake pearls (dollar store brand) from your pocket and gently cast them on the one squealing. At this point, they will stop and in that small window of silence hand them the "Swine card". The very politely invite them to a "pigs-in-a-blanket" luncheon.

It is important that you apologize immediately. Then you might hand them a coupon for 50 cents off a pound of bacon.
btw - the "pig-headed" reference in the title is not meant to offend kind, humble Arminians. Calvinists can be "bull-headed" sometimes. And Cal-minians are known for their "wooden-heads". So, go gently through that good night...and don't get too "heady" with your knowledge.

Letter Department

Dear Eddie,
I need your advice on this very awkward situation. There is a certain "blogger" who has a certain "theological world view" that I do not possess myself. I love his "humor" and his "cartoons" are funny but, sometimes he "preaches" a little too much on "five" areas of "doctrine" I don't agree with. I happen to attend the Okeedokee Free Will Baptist Church of Tupelo, Mississippi and would like "him" to read my new pop-up book: "I Ain't No Puppet and I Ain't No Robot!". Do you think "he" would mind me sending it to "him" and charging him for the postage?
Your semi-fan,
Ludloe Moots

Dear Ludloe,
I think "he" has already read your book. "He" picked it up at a garage sale last week. My advice to you is to do a study on Romans 9, John 10, John 17 and Ephesians chapter one as soon as possible! But, I must say, you have "inspired" me to write a pop-up book. A pop-up book to refute you own.
Will anyone out there in Lala Land help me with a working title?

E-vandal-ism

A vandal is one who willfully or ignorantly destroys, damages,
or defaces property belonging to another or to the public.

The John 3:16 Conference was "evandalism" in that it defaces God's sovereignty and exalts man pride.
Makes you wonder if they would dare sell Spurgeon books to those who attend. I have known full-blown Arminians who edit Spurgeon and believe that he was not a Calvinist! It didn't matter if he made a thousand statements to that effect or not!
I was disappointed to hear that Paige Patterson was a part of it. He was instrumental in getting me a full scholarship to the Criswell College. He and his wife, Dorothy, have been a great blessing to my family. In my book, More Awesome Truth, published by Barbour, I have two introductions. One written by John MacArthur and the other by Paige Patterson!
When I first became a Christian I fought Calvinism tooth and nail. I read all I could against it. The church I was attending was an independent Baptist that was a part of the "Sword of the Lord" crowd. But, it was there I was befriended by Dr. J. William F. Miles, who had taught Greek at Tennessee Temple and was a Calvinist (although at the time I had no idea - and would not have joined his classes if I had known). He started a School of Theology in his home and asked me to be a part of it.
After a few weeks of attending, and realizing that he believed in that dreaded doctine of election, I left a copy of "Predestined for Hell, NO!" by John R. Rice on his desk.
We had many a long night, after that, discussing the Doctrines of Grace. It wasn't until I was studying the High Priestly prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ in John 17 that God turned the light on about election. I still struggled with limited atonement for months.
Finally, I simply had to bow my proud heart (again) and God revealed His grace, mercy and love in a way that changed my entire life. The sovereignty of God has been the anchor, the sail, and the ship itself, that has kept me afloat and traveling through the sometimes stormy seas of the Christian life!

High Five Low Five

I created this scroll to use as a wallpaper. It really looks good in the dining area and guest room. You may have seen the Five Points of Arminianism (a Theology with Weeds) on the internet. I don't know who the author is but it is genius, I tells ya....genius.
