My Letter from Loraine Boettner

Loraine Boettner was born on March 7, 1901 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 3, 1990. This is a scan or the letter I have taped in my Reformed Doctrine of Predestination hardcover 1980 edition. This serves as a constant reminder of his kindness and his servant attitude, as he was still ministering to students whenever and wherever he could. This is one book I will never be without.

No Atheists in Hell

Believe it or not, there are no atheists or agnostics in Hell! The only atheists are here on earth.  There is a "Great Awakening" for those who deny the existence of God. Some of the celebrites pictured above are no longer atheists. They are believers - believers like the demons who believe. For those pictured above who are still living, God's command to repent is still in effect. Depravity, being what it is, is total, and without spiritual revelation and saving grace, there is no hope for the "earth time" atheist. I, myself, claimed to be an atheist in my teen years. Someone was praying for me. God predestines the ends as well as the means, so if you are prompted to pray for a celebrity, by "all means" do it! Atheism is, and will always be, a temporary delusion.

A Song of Romans 8:28

I found this stuck in one of my books. I had copied it from some Sovereign Grace magazine years ago. It was written by Daniel Parks and it blesses me each time I read it.

ALL THINGS TOGETHER WORK FOR GOOD

A Metered Meditation of Romans 8:28 - 32
To be sung to the tune of
"There is a Fountain Filled With Blood"

All things together work for good. To them who love the Lord;
Yea, e'en to them who have been called according to God's Word.
God foreknew all His chosen race before the world began.
And purposed for them all things good by His foreordained plan.

Whom God forknew He also did predestinate to be
Conformed unto the image of His Son for all to see.
Then these predestinated ones, though deep in sin and shame.
Were called - and that effectually - when God the Spirit came.

Man's condemnation was so great that soon all should have died.
But for all these the Spirit called, God also justified.
God justified! Yes! He is great! His depths no man can know.
But God's work still was not complete - He glorified also!

What shall we say for all these things? What shall our answer be?
'Tis this, "If God be for us, then, who can against us be?"
He who spared not His own Son, but delivered Him to be
The Savior for His chosen race, works good and wondrously.

The Journal of Cotton Adams #11

May 22, 1739

I rode my horse, Calico, to the neighboring village of Dunder, Missouri, which is about ten miles from Mifflin. I heard of a pastor by the name of Cotton Patches, who after reading one of my tracts, formed a group called the A.C.L.U. (Anti-Calvinist Literature Union) Upon further investigation, I found out he was also president of C.H.O.I.C.E (Christians Have Omnipotence In Canceling Election) I plan on listening to one of his sermons and introducing myself, in hopes of a meaningful conversation. I fear he has a multiplicity of misinformation that needs correcting.
The following is a small portion of what was preached:

"…dear brothers and sisters, do you really think this doctrine could be true?! Do you really believe that everything is predestined?! Do you actually feel that my being here today was determined before the foundation of the world?? I say to thee, nay…NAY!! I just decided to preach on this subject thirty minutes ago!
…and that mud clod that just hit me in the shoulder…can you honestly say it was predestined? …and that small rock that bounced off my head…and those tomatoes that are being hurled in my direction…and that dead cat some wag has just sent flying my way…YOU SEE! I shouldn't have been in here in the first place!"

With that he jumped on his horse and rode off in a zig-zag fashion. I never got to converse with him. Maybe that day will come soon. Lord willing.

There's a Name

Everything will be back to "normal" when I return home. As for now, please accept these songs I wrote as you would a subtitute teacher or a visiting preacher at the pulpit. Thanks...and we still could use your prayers!

THERE'S A NAME

There's a Name, above all names
The same Name, that sets my soul aflame
He's the One, God's only Son
Every knee shall bow every tongue shall confess His name

The Christ of Revelation is the Rock of my salvation
and with no exaggeration I'll say
Because I was elected, I'll never be rejected
He made my will to want to one day
In His predestination is all Heaven's population
By His holy invitation to go
Whom He calls He justifies
Turns around and glorifies
He has paid for every sin-debt we owe

There's a Man, above all men
The God-Man, Who made it all begin
He's the One, God's only Son
Every knee shall bow every tongue shall confess His name
